Visual artist Fiona Harrington will present a live demonstration of traditional Irish lace-making, offering insight into five distinct Irish lace styles and the techniques used in their construction. Through hands-on demonstration, Fiona will reveal the intricacy and skill involved in this historic craft, which has been practiced in Ireland for generations. A selection of antique and technical lace samples will be on display, allowing audiences to closely examine the materials, patterns and methods involved. Fiona will also discuss how she adapts traditional lace-making techniques within her contemporary sculptural practice, exploring ways of preserving, reimagining and sustaining this important cultural craft for future generations.
