Sustainability

St. Patrick’s Festival is committed to festival sustainability, so much so that we have chosen sustainability as one of our core organisational values.

As one of the biggest festivals in Ireland, we have a responsibility to lead by example which is why we are championing sustainability in our production, operations and programming. Our journey starts here and will be built on every year, but this is only possible through the efforts of all our stakeholders including YOU, our audience!

Reuse and Upcycle!

Did you know that every year we reuse, recycle and upcycle materials to produce our creative content. Wherever possible we reuse and upcycle the float bases, the build materials and costumes to create the wonderful, imaginative content you see on Parade day, whilst supporting our commitment to minimising our environmental impact.

European Recycling Platform

We are delighted to continue our partnership with The European Recycling Platform (ERP) for the third year as a Sustainability Partner of the festival. As the country’s only pan-European compliance scheme for WEEE and waste batteries, ERP plays a crucial role in promoting responsible e-recycling. This year, ERP will present the Trash EEElk. The sculpture will be a representation of the extinct ancient Irish elk, (Megaloceros
Gigantus). Last year ERP created the EcoTrashship (pictured), a unique WEEE-inspired installation designed to raise awareness about the importance of recycling electronic waste. The Trash EEElk installation will be on display throughout the 2026 festival weekend at St. Patrick’s Park.
