Frank Sweeney: All I Believe Happened there was Vision
A film installation in search of the Irish Otherworld, a place where there is neither sickness nor age nor death; where happiness lasts forever and where food and drink do not diminish when consumed.
It is the home of a people who value material wealth only as a basis for right living, where fields and villages are joyous with the sounds of industry and the laughter of happy maidens. In short, it is the best small country in the world in which to do business, raise a family and grow old.
Opening Night Talk Friday 13, 6pm
Irish tradition posits the existence of an Otherworld realm lying beyond the furthest reaches of the horizon, or hidden alongside us in the natural landscape. Archivist Jonny Dillon will deliver a presentation at 7pm exploring conceptions of the Otherworld in Irish folk tradition, drawing on manuscript and audiovisual sources held at the archives of the National Folklore Collection, University College Dublin.
Film plays on loop 13-17, March 2020, 11am - 7pm, opening reception Friday 13 March 6pm.
